Hi there! I took a little bit of a break from the blog last week and wanted to share what I’ve been up to.
A big update: I left my job at Lou & Grey / Ann Taylor two weeks ago! I had been with the company for four years and was ready for a change & new direction, especially now being in LA.
I’m going to be doing freelance design & art direction, as well as exploring interior design. You might remember that I did an interior design internship a couple years ago and I’ve been dying to explore it more as a career. It feels really great to be learning and challenging myself! I’m letting myself adjust slowly to my new schedule and easing into projects, but am hopeful that I’ll have a bit more time to spend on the blog now!
Gardening
If you follow me on Instagram, you have likely seen that I’ve been doing a bit of gardening! I’ve always dreamed of having some outdoor space and setting up a garden so it feels amazing to finally be able to make that a reality. I’m planning on building two raised beds in our backyard and filling them with a mix of flowers and vegetables. I finally sowed my seeds this weekend and can’t wait for them to sprout up! I’ve been getting all of my gardening advice from Floret Flower and Garden Tom and I just got this book in the mail, which is a wealth of information to have on hand.
Wearing
I received these shearling clogs from Jenni Kayne this month and have been wearing them constantly! They’re so comfortable and easy to slip on when running out the door and I even wear them with socks when it’s chillier. Use code ALEX15 for 15% off your purchase. My friend Nan influenced me to buy these striped tees from AYR and they are perfection! I bought French Toast and Bauhaus and have basically worn one every single day—they’re so soft and the perfect cut.
Taking Notes
I’m a bit biased, but I pretty much love every space Michelle Smith designs and her home in Bellport is no exception. It’s featured in this month’s Architectural Digest and I’m saving so many images for inspiration. I especially love her fresh take on bedding—she doesn’t use duvets because they often look messy and instead prefers a more tailored bed. Consider me on the hunt for a chic coverlet!
Moisturizing
When recently replenishing my Nécessaire body wash and exfoliator, I decided to try their hand lotion. It’s now my favorite hand cream—it’s fragrance free and super moisturizing, but dries quickly so your hands aren’t greasy afterwards.
Coveting
Always on the lookout for gingham, I spotted this new weekender tote in Loeffler Randall’s spring collection. Already picturing it for long weekend trips and days at the beach or park!
Listening
I recently listened to interior designer Matilda Goad on Domino Magazine’s podcast, Design Time, and had to share. Her personality and outlook is so uplifting, just like her interiors. It was such a great listen—and you can’t help but smile when listening to someone speak with a British accent! I also highly recommend Liz Damrich’s episode on the Her Vision podcast—I think I have listened to it 3 times already because I find her story and way of approaching things so inspiring!
