Storm King
I've been wanting to visit Storm King for awhile and we finally made it there this past weekend. We decided to also stop at Blue Hill at Stone Barns on our way and had the most amazing breakfast at their cafe. The grounds are beautiful and we loved walking through their gardens, which were filled with such colorful flowers. You can even pick a farm fresh bouquet to take home with you!
We had the most beautiful weather that day and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the 500+ acres at Storm King (if you don't already know, it's an art center about an hour outside of NYC). The property is full of sculptures, many by famous artists like Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Donald Judd and Richard Serra. We ended up renting bikes, which was one of our favorite parts of the day. You can ride a tram around the property, but biking around was a lot more fun. I loved seeing all of the Calder pieces, but I think my favorite was "Wavefield" by Maya Lin. I love how seamlessly it fits into the landscape—at first glance it looks like natural rolling hills.
I highly highly recommend this as a day trip from NYC—it was so great getting out of the city for the day—and while you're there, check out Dia:Beacon across the river. We are already planning a visit back to Storm King during the fall when all the leaves are changing!
